TEST METHOD FOR SULFITE IN INDUSTRIAL WATER (RANGE: 0-200 & above mg/L SO3)
BACKGROUND OF THE TEST:
In boiler water treatment, numerous oxygen scavengers
are used. Sodium Sulfite is considered as one of the
most effective scavenger among all. Accordingly, certain
residuals of sulfite are maintained and measured in
boiler feed water before economizer and/or in the
boiler drum to ensure that dissolved oxygen levels are
NIL.
Nuclotrasis offers user friendly test method with ease of
handling the relevant reagents and other equipment in
which Iodine is liberated in an acidic medium of the
sample upon addition of Iodide ion with Titrant. The
produced iodine reacts with sulfite residuals present in
the sample. Upon end point that is when all sulfite
residuals are completely oxidized by iodine produced
earlier, the liberated excess iodine eventually develops
blue color upon reaction with starch indicator and the
volume of Titrant used is noted.
REAGENTS/EQUIPMENTS/APPARATUS:
Provided 5 mL & 10 mL marked glass vial (Item
Code: 02-01)
NUCLOTRASIS SULFITE-I Reagent
(Item code: 01-05-01)
NUCLOTRASIS SULFITE-II Test Indicator Reagent
(Item code: 01-05-02)
NUCLOTRASIS SULFITE-III Test Titrant Solution
(Item code: 01-05-03)
SAMPLE COLLECTION & PREPARATION
Make sure to immediately analyze the sample after
collection of sample.
Ensure to collect sample in a suitable and
designated bottle for a specific sample.
Thoroughly rinse the sample bottle with current
sample and fill the sample by allowing slight
overflow and immediately tighten the cap.
Prevent agitation of the sample and exposure to air
as the test is sensitive to the air.
TEST PROCEDURE:
1. We recommend selecting the sample volume in
the provided glass vial (Item Code: 02-01)
based on your expected/desired sulfite residuals
range from the chart below.
2. Then add 10 drops of NUCLOTRASIS SULFITE-I
Reagent (Item code: 01-05-01) and swirl to
mix.
3. Then add 3 drops of NUCLOTRASIS SULFITE-II
Test Indicator Reagent (Item code: 01-05-02)
and swirl to mix.
4. Now start adding NUCLOTRASIS SULFITE-III
Test Titrant Solution (Item code: 01-05-03)
drop wise while gently swirling the flask and
while counting number of drops added until a
permanent faint blue color appears.
5. Note the number of drops added and multiply
with multiplication factor mentioned in above
chart against selected sample volume.
6. Report the reading as ppm (mg/L) or as required
by the system.
