 TEST METHOD FOR SILICA LR IN INDUSTRIAL WATER  (RANGE: 0-4.9 mg/L SiO2) 

 BACKGROUND OF THE TEST: 

Specified limits of silica are crucial to any industrial equipment in the industrial water such as in presence of 

Magnesium, it can form scale deposits in boilers and steam turbines. Consequently, precise determination of 

silica in water is of worthwhile. 

Nuclotrasis offers user friendly test method with ease of handling the relevant reagents and other equipments 

used in the analysis. Silica test relies on Lambert Bear’s Law of spectrometry where silica and any phosphates in 

the sample react with molybdate ions under acidic conditions to form yellow color complexes of silicomolybdic 

acid and phosphomolybdic acid. Then subsequent suitable acidic treatment vanish the effect of phosphate 

complexes. After that the same is reduced by a suitable reducing agent to give blue color complex. Finally the 

sample is analyzed and is run on 815 nm. 

REAGENTS/EQUIPMENTS/APPARATUS: 

• Provided 10 mL marked glass vial (Item Code: 02-01)

• Provided double ended micro scoop (Item Code: 02-02)

• Any Suitable Spectrophotometer 

• Relevant Cuvette or cell of Photometer 

• NUCLOTRASIS SILICA-I TEST SOLUTION (Item Code: 01-12-1)

• NUCLOTRASIS SILICA-II TEST SOLUTION (Item Code: 01-12-2)

• NUCLOTRASIS SILICA-III TEST SOLUTION (Item Code: 01-12-3)

• NUCLOTRASIS SILICA-IV TEST REAGENT (Item Code: 01-12-4)

SAMPLE COLLECTION & PREPARATION 

• Make sure to immediately analyze the sample after collection of sample. 

• Ensure to collect sample in a suitable and designated bottle for a specific sample. 

• Ensure to conduct this test at room temperatures. 

TEST PROCEDURE: 

1. Take sample to 10 mL mark into the provided vial (Item Code: 02-01) and call it as “A”.

2. Similarly take 10 mL deionized water in another cuvette or test tube for reagent blank and call it as 

“B”.

3. In the sample, add 10 drops NUCLOTRASIS SILICA-I TEST SOLUTION (Item Code: 01-12-1) and mix 

gently. 

4. Then add 5 drops NUCLOTRASIS SILICA-II TEST SOLUTION (Item Code: 01-12-2) and mix gently. 

5. After two (2) minutes, add 5 drops NUCLOTRASIS SILICA-III TEST SOLUTION (Item Code: 01-12-3)

and mix well. 

6. After two (2) minutes, use provided double ended micro scoop (Item Code: 02-02) larger scoop size, 

add full scoop of NUCLOTRASIS SILICA-IV TEST REAGENT (Item Code: 01-12-4) in the sample and mix 

gently. 

7. First run reagent blank “B” to achieve blanking. 

8. Then run test sample “A” and note the Photometer display reading in µg/L or mg/L. In case 

photometer is not available, match the developed color with the provided soft copy color comparator 

of this SILICA LR test kit. 

9. Multiply the reading with dilution factor 1.1.
